Conventional dentures are designed to conform to the shape of your mouth. Your gums and the underlying bone are supporting these dentures. The dentures rub against your gums and often create sore spots. Many people feel that a traditional denture is the best option for replacing teeth, because these dentures are removable and cleaned outside the mouth.
Dentures are available in either Fixed or Removable. Fixed dentures are only removable by your denturist for cleaning and examination. Alternatively, removable dentures can be removed by the patient for cleaning. Read about how to clean your dentures.
An implant-supported denture is retained or supported by four or more dental implants. This means that the denture does not rest on the gums. It becomes fixed on implants, which are embedded in the bone. In such case, only your denturist will be able to remove the denture for Denture cleaning and examination.
Implant-Retained Dentures sit on the tissue, but are held in place by the implant in order to limit movement. The minimum number of implants that can be applied to the lower is 2, while the minimum implants on upper is four.
